"I don't know what's going on here. I just come in to work every day."

This was said over speakerphone ( cellphone) in front of a judge

Me " today is the trial and no one from the defense is here. The issue is, I have not been paid for my panel QME in over one year"

Supervisor " Maybe we don't want to work with doctors like you".

I won sanctions on this case.

Heh heh heh...

I've got more than a few, but will just stick with a handful for brevity's sake:

"Stip to 100%, we don't do that here. Take it to trial." (this was after being shown DEU ratings showing 100% for both defense & applicant sides)

"Take it to trial. I don't have the time for this." (Said on the day of trial, no D/A present at MSC or Trial; Stips & Issues submitted with only Applicant treater report, defense QME report barred due to D/A not filing & serving; I transferred the Judge's call directly over and magically, authority appeared out of thin air w/in 5 minutes)

"This claimant has been collecting benefits for too long. You should get some surveillance on them." (Death claim, 2 beneficiaries: 1 minor child who was 8 months old on DOI, the other was the claimant's widow)

"Poor planning on your behalf does not constitute an emergency on mine. I am too busy to review this file today." (said the day of trial where the supervisor had the file sitting on their desk for review & authority for 14 months... yes, 14 months... bet you can't guess the carrier...)

"I'm not reviewing any files today. My son's got a soccer game and I have to be there at 11." (Said at 7:35 am)

"We can't close this case without a Dismissal or something from the judge." (Claimant was incarcerated in 2002 with a 1st parole date in 2022)

Enjoy!

"Penalties are a cost of doing business, why do you care when I review the file?"

At my performance review three months later......

"Your file had too many penalties on it."

Luckily, the late great Kim Kunkel got that one removed from my review.....Bless that man whereever he may be.

SAVE ME FROM THE STUPERVISORS of the world.

Are the above 'geniuses' graduates of The Louis B. Mayer School of Business Management perhaps? He's quoted as having stated "Spare no expense to save money on this one!". This mantra seems all too frequently borne out in actual claims handling practices.

I'll never forget this one: "Why does he need a $65K prosthetic? Can't we just get him the $38K one? And if it works, we'll buy him the other one."

wow.... All I can say is... wow....

either I have not been in the industry long enough, or I've just been lucky...

Typos, on the other hand....

My old supervisor was reviewing a file and inputted the following excerpt: "...Injured worker is male 28-year-old janitor hored on..."

Steve,

I wonder if "Paul" had anything to do with designing EAMS?

Anyhow, to digress to typos, many years ago the Claim Manager in my office had a very prim, proper secretary who wouldn't even say "darn it," if upset. A multi-million dollar nation-wide account had a serious truck accident and well after the fact a claim was submitted by a bystander who happened onto the scene and months later submitted a claim.

The attorney filing the suit had a reputation of filing something on any potential client who walked in the door.

In any event the standard form letter was typed, notifying the Insured something to the effect we would defend their interests up to the policy limits from this "lawshit."

The president of the company returned a copy of the letter with a handwritten note, circling the word in question and adding something like, "A very succinct analysis...or is this a new legal term?"

If I had his address, I'd send him a copy of my SWAG link!
