Good day. I have a querry with regard to the DRE and ROM methods in determining spine impairments. Suppose that there is a distinct injury involving the cervical and lumbar spine. Impairment however in the cervical spine explicitly showed multilevel condition as evidenced by the MRI study. The lumbar spine showed only one level intervertebral disc impairment. Can we use the ROM Method for the cervical spine due to the multilevel impairment in the cervical region and use the DRE Method in the lumbar spine? Or should we just use the DRE Method for both cervical and lumbar spine impairments. Thanks a lot. Do hope you can answer this promptly. Thanks again for your help.

Maybe.

First the multilevel involvement of the cervical spine must be significant ( fractures, radiculopathy) not just a herniation or arthrosis.
Otherwise it would be most likely a DRE which you would combine with the Lumbar DRE

Thankies... There was fusion at C5-C6. He had an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, and plating at C3-C4, C4-C5 and C5-C6. EMG/NCV to the upper extremities are normal. Clinically, the patient just presents with intermittent pain to the neck radiating down to the right shoulder. There's limitation of the Cervical ROM. There is normal neurologic testing and MMT. The lumbar spine can be clearly rated using the DRE method. Thanks again.
